My father was admitted to Henry Ford Hospital after a fall, and they gave us 48 hours to find memory care. Detroit Senior Advisor matched us with two communities in Grosse Pointe and one near Royal Oak — all within our MI Choice Waiver budget. He moved in a few days later, conveniently close to his cardiologist at Corewell Health.

Common questions

Who licenses assisted living facilities in Detroit?
Michigan has no standalone "assisted living" license. Communities operate as Homes for the Aged (HFA) — 21 or more unrelated residents — under the Public Health Code (1978 PA 368, Part 213), and/or as Adult Foster Care (AFC) homes under the Adult Foster Care Facility Licensing Act (1979 PA 218). Both are licensed and inspected by the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), Bureau of Community and Health Systems (BCHS). Families can verify a community's license and inspection history at the LARA Adult Foster Care & Homes for the Aged licensing search (michigan.gov/LARA).
How does Medicaid help pay for care?
Michigan's MI Choice Waiver can cover personal care and supports in AFC/HFA settings or at home for those who qualify, and MI Health Link (the Medicare-Medicaid dual demonstration in Southeast Michigan) may also help, but neither generally covers room & board. Our advisors help you understand eligibility, which you apply for through Michigan.gov/MDHHS.
What cities/areas do you serve?
Detroit, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Livonia, Troy, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Royal Oak, Novi, Rochester Hills, St. Clair Shores, Grosse Pointe, and Clinton Township — across Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw counties throughout Metro Detroit.
How much does assisted living cost around Detroit?
Standard assisted living in Metro Detroit generally runs $3,800 to $5,600 a month, while memory care runs $4,800 to $6,800 a month. Costs vary by area — Oakland County (Birmingham, Bloomfield Hills, Novi, Northville, Rochester) skews highest; the Detroit/Wayne urban core and parts of Macomb run lower.
How fast can a parent move in?
Most non-urgent moves close in 7–14 days. Hospital discharges from Henry Ford Hospital, the Detroit Medical Center, Ascension St. John Hospital, or Corewell Health can sometimes happen the same day.
Can Area Agency on Aging or VA benefits help?
The Detroit Area Agency on Aging (DAAA, Region 1-A) and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B (for Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw) offer guidance, along with Michigan 2-1-1 and MMAP (Michigan Medicare/Medicaid Assistance Program). Veterans can reach the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center for benefits guidance, including Aid & Attendance.
Is my information shared with lots of companies?
No. We hand-match you with 1–3 relevant options. Your information stays with our local Detroit team — we never resell it.
What does this service cost families?
Nothing — free for families. We're compensated by the receiving community only when a placement is made.
